Zivogosce
is a village and a small port placed under the hills of Biokovo
mountain, on the south part of the attractive Makarska Riviera, 20 km
from the city of Makarska. It consists of couple of smaller villages,
Porat, Mala Duba and Blato - situated just by the sea. It consists also
of the old villages Murava and Strnj which are situated along the old
road at the bottom of Biokovo mountain. Živogosce was inhabited during
the Illyric and Roman Ages. The Illyric piles (tombs) on the top of
Suzine hill and villa rustica in Blato and Mala Duba are here to
testify its long history. At the coasline, above the Pokrivenica spring, stays an Licinian’s epigram inscribed in the stone by te sea dedicated to a water spring flowing even today. In the 18th century a Franciscan monastry was built, today there is an old library and archive. In the village you can find several pretty pebble stone beaches surrounded by pine woods. The natural beauty, vineyards and olive trees, many bays and crystal clear sea attracts numerous visitors. The quality accomodation can be found in hotels, apartments and autocamps. For those intrested in an active holliday there are different sport courts, playgrounds, water sports gear, biking and hiking track. There is a possibility for many excursions: the natural park Biokovo, fish picnic on excursion boats to islands Hvar and Brac, visits to Oms, Trogir, Blue and red Lake near Imotski, Dubrovnik, Mostar, Međugorje... |
