CROATIAN BEACHES

Croatia has 1777 km of indented shore; 1185 islands, cliffs and reefs, out of which 47 are inhabited.

The coast and the beaches are mostly made of rock, pebbles or sand, with numerous coves and cliffs. The The vegetation is mostly evergreen (pine, larch tree, cypress...), but in some areas of Istria and Kvarner, the shade might also be provided by sessile oak. The high and the low tide have relatively small amplitudes of about 0.5 metres.

Along with clear and clean sea, the main characteristics of the Croatian coast are its versatile beaches where everybody can find their favourite part of the sea and land; shallow sandy or pebble beaches for families with children; romantic and hidden coves or cliffs, already famous beaches with rich sports programme or offering a good time during the nighttime, windy coves and channels for windsurfers, quiet coves and cliffs ideal for snorkeling... Most of the beaches in Croatia are rock or pebble made, while a minor number of them are made of sand.
